The 2008-2009 MetroPCS and ZTE Community Scholars Program launches on October 13, 2008. Applications are available to download by clicking the link above.

MetroPCS founded the Community Scholars Program to recognize senior high school students’ community involvement and to encourage their continued dedication to volunteer activities. The program provides college scholarships to high school seniors who value volunteerism, have made a difference in their hometowns and excel academically. Education, volunteerism and community involvement are all part of MetroPCS’ corporate foundation.

MetroPCS has partnered with ZTE USA, Inc., a subsidiary of ZTE Corporate, a leading provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, to award $1000 scholarships to high school seniors who plan to continue education in college or university programs. In evaluating applications, our overarching criteria will be students who have demonstrated exceptional involvement in volunteerism and community service, in addition to academics and other criteria. Scholarships are offered for full-time study at an accredited two or four year institution of the student’s choice.

The scholarship program is administered by Scholarship Management Services, a national nonprofit educational support organization that seeks to involve the private sector in expanding educational opportunities and encouraging educational achievement. The following will be taken into account when selecting winners:

  • Participation in school activities
  • Academic record (applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a standard 4.0 grading scale to be considered)
  • Additional Honors
  • Work experience
  • Statement of goals and aspirations
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An outside appraisal via a letter of recommendation

Finalists will be notified by March 2, 2009. Due to the number of applications received, MetroPCS will only be able to notify students who are named as finalists. Award recipients will be notified by April 16, 2009.
